ALPHA-AMYLASE
Americos Amylase 180

Introduction

Americos Amylase 180 is a desizing agent based on bacterial alpha amylase. It is a mixture of highly concentrated alpha-amylase, wetting agent and lubricant to convert most of the sizes viz. starch, starch derivatives, synthetic sizes and their blends into water soluble products. Specifically it can be used for the following sizing materials and their combinations: Americos Amylase 180 has three different types of actions. The built-in wetting agent ensures proper penetration of enzyme in the textile material. The enzyme then converts the starch sizes in to soluble dextrin products, which can be easily removed in the subsequent washings. Moreover, the in-built lubricant reduces fiber to fiber and fiber to metal friction. This unique combination prevents the formation of unwanted creases, streaks, lines and crack marks during desizing process.

Physical Property

Appearance Viscous Liquid
Chemical character Blend of amylase enzyme and non-ionic surfactants
Ionic Nature Non-ionic
Solubility Readily soluble in water
pH (on 1% solution) 7 ± 1
Application pH range 6-7
Application temperature 60-70oC

Stability

Hard water Good, Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions increase the efficacy of the enzyme
Acids Good from pH 5 to 7
Alkalis Stable in alkaline region from pH 7 to 9
Metal ions Iron and copper ions are poisonous for enzymes

Compatibility

Non-ionic surfactant Generally very good
Anionic surfactant Selective, some reduce the efficacy of the enzyme
Solvent based surfactant Selective, some reduce the efficacy of the enzyme
Organic sequestrates Generally good
Reducing / oxidizing agent Reduce the efficacy of enzyme

Application Methods

Americos Amylase 180 can be applied by any one of the following techniques.

(a) Exhaust application (jigger, soft-flow m/c and winch)
Americos Amylase 180 1 - 2 ml/l
Americos Lub Pro VX 0.5 - 1 g/l
Temperature 60-70°C
pH : 6-7
Time : 30-60 min.
After the treatment, drain the liquor; give one hot wash and then one cold wash. Alkaline washing with soda ash improves the removal efficiency of degraded sizing material.

(b) Exhaust application (wash-wheel)
Americos Amylase 180 1% (owg)
Americos Lub Pro VX 0.5 - 1 g/l
Temperature 60 - 70°C
pH 6 - 7
Time 30 - 60 min
First, raise the temperature of bath to 60 - 70oC and add Amylase 180 and Americos Lube Pro VX. The machine should run for a minute to ensure proper mixing of chemicals. Adjust pH 6 - 7.

Thereafter, garment should be loaded. The desizing time can be varied from 30 - 60 min depending upon the type of fabric and chemical dosage.

(c) Semi-continuous application (pad-batch process)
Americos Amylase 180 3 - 5 ml/l
pH 6 - 7
Impregnate the fabric at 60 - 70°C for a pick-up of 80 - 100%. Store the fabric for 8 - 12 h; give one hot wash with soda ash, one plain hot wash and one cold rinse.
